Onwatch is pleased to announce our ‘Charities of the Year’ for 2018.

This year we have decided to support the air ambulance service adjacent to each of our main regional offices within the UK:

The Kent, Surrey & Sussex Air Ambulance Trust provides a Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS), responding to patients who have suffered trauma or serious medical emergencies.

They operate 24 hours a day, ensuring they can be there for the most critically ill and injured people in the region.

Their medical crews can provide highly specialist care at the scene; they are able to anaesthetise, perform surgery and give blood transfusions to patients. Following treatment, they can airlift patients directly to the hospital that can best care for them going forward. Around half of the patients they treat are taken to regional major trauma centres, ensuring they can get the care they urgently need without delay.

They operate two aircraft – one from their Kent base in daylight hours, and the other from their Surrey base 24 hours a day. This means that no matter where you are in Kent, Surrey or Sussex, you are never more than 20 minutes away from the life-saving care that only they can bring directly to your side.

The charity relies almost entirely on donations and fundraising and without this kind support, they simply could not continue their life-saving work.

Each mission costs £2,500 – We need to raise £6.5million  each year to keep the service operational.

Midlands Air Ambulance is the charity responsible for funding and operating three air ambulances serving the communities of six Midlands counties: Gloucestershire, Herefordshire, Shropshire, Staffordshire, Worcestershire and the West Midlands. This constitutes the largest air ambulance operating region in the UK. The charity also provides secondary cover to the surrounding areas, such as Warwickshire and mid Wales.

Since 1991, the charity has responded to more than 49,000 missions averaging 2,000 per year, making it one of the longest established and busiest air ambulance organisations in the UK.

The charity’s three aircraft each carry a crew comprising pilot, two paramedics or flight doctors plus full life-support medical equipment. Operating from strategically located regional airbases, 90 per cent of the region is within reach within eight minutes.

If a patient reaches hospital within the Golden Hour (60 minutes after their injury) their chances of survival are dramatically increased. That is why the rapid response of the Midlands Air Ambulance is so vital in an emergency situation.

What is not widely known is that Midlands Air Ambulance receives no Government or National Lottery funding. Each Midlands Air Ambulance mission costs £2,500 and in excess of £9 million is needed each year to keep its three air ambulances operational, which is donated entirely by the public and local businesses, with four in ten of those we help funded by Gifts in Wills.

The charity is fortunate to count on tremendous public support and good will, but never takes this for granted. Winning and keeping hearts and minds is an essential and constant challenge. That is why it regards the real ‘helicopter heroes’ as not only the aircrew, but those often unsung ground heroes, its fundraisers.

The Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) operates three helicopters across the North-East, North Yorkshire and Cumbria. It does not receive Government funding and last year needed to raise £5.1m through charitable activities to keep flying.

The charity is a progressive organisation which has pioneered pre-hospital care in the region. Many of the advancements introduced by GNAAS have now been adopted elsewhere nationally and internationally.

GNAAS has airlifted more than 16,000 people since it started as a charity in 2002. Many of these would not have survived if not for the advanced care administered by the aircrew.

All money raised will be divided equally between these three charities.

Our 2018 campaign will start this Christmas with a variety of fundraising activities organised by our staff including a raffle, sponsored events and collection of donations from local businesses.

We have lots of exciting events planned so please check this page regularly for updates or follow us on,
